MMG has developed the Virtual Contact Test (VCT) to reduce expenditure on propeller assembly. With the VCT the conical hub bore of the propeller is measured precisely down to a hundredth of a millimetre and aligned with the design data of the shaft while the propeller is still in the MMG workshop. Thus the propeller is supplied ready for fitting. If required MMG engineers will test the dimensions of the ship‘s shaft using a mobile measuring unit. More than 200 propellers mounted successfully using the VCT proof the reliability of this unique method.
The VCT, which is recognised by DNVGL, ABS, LR and BV, makes the traditional blue bedding test fully superfluous – in both redesign programmes and on new ships.
